Visiting Sintra

Apart for being very, VERY, touristy, Sintra is a destination you don’t want to miss when being around Lisbon.
It is located at just 40 minutes train from Lisbon and all of the characteristic palaces are connected with private buses and tuk tuks.

Plan ahead what you want to visit, because it’s very likely that you won’t be able to see all of the palaces and castles in just one day!

We started off by visiting the remotest of the palaces, the Monserrate, and then, after a circa 1 hour bus wait, we had to go back in the centre of the city and take another bus to get to Quinta da Regaleira, the mysterious palace full of masonic symbols.

After going around the palace for a while, we went to take the bus to Palacio da Pena, but it didn’t show. Luckily there was this tuk tuk rider near us that for 10 euros took us for a fast (as fast as tuk tuks can get) ride to the palace, which we were lucky enough to enjoy during golden hour just before sunset.
